Grindelwald village is situated in the Bernese Alps, at 1,034 m (3,392 ft) above sea level. The municipality is quite large and divided into seven communities in the mountains. The municipality, however, is dominated by the great tourist center of Grindelwald.

There are activities for non-skiers, from tobogganing to groomed winter hiking trails, long known as a winter tourist destination with slopes for beginners, intermediates and the challenges of the Eiger Glacier for the experienced. It is the usual point of departure for the Eiger and the Wetterhorn ascents. Today, Grindelwald is also a popular summer resort with many kilometers of hiking trails throughout the Alps.

Day Trip to Swiss Villages (Interlaken-Grindelwald) with local from LucerneThe two ski regions of First and Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen-Wengen offer 160 kilometers of pistes with approximately 30 lifts up to 2500 m altitude during the winter. The Schilthorn near Mürren, also part of the ski arena of the Jungfrau region, reaches 2971 meters. But the Lauberhorn piste near Wengen, popularized by the World Cup circus, is without a doubt the most spectacular piste in the region.

There are 300 km of walking trails around Grindelwald during the summer vacation. One of the most beautiful hikes in the region is the high altitude walk from Grindelwald-First along the Bachalpsee to the Faulhorn Mountain Hotel and then on to the Schynige Platte. An easy walk leads from the Männlichen to the Kleine Scheidegg, with magnificent views of the three world-famous mountains of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
