Itinerary
Day 1: Zurich
Train transfer from Zurich airport to Zurich hotel. Afterward, discover the spectacular sights of Zurich, one of the most vibrant Swiss cities. Cruise past legendary landmarks like the sophisticated Bahnhofstrasse and admire the shimmering surface of Lake Zurich. See also the sacred St Peter’s Church and the charming Old Town, and then ride the Dolderbahn railway to the undulating hills of the Zurichberg district.
Day 2: Rhine Falls
Enjoy a one-day romantic self-guided tour from Zurich to the biggest European waterfalls of Rhein Falls and stroll through romantic towns of Switzerland: Stein am Rhein, Schaffhausen, and visit the famous Abbey Library in St.Gallen. Optionally we can include the full-day guide.
Day 3: Interlaken
Train to Interlaken, a mountainous region of the Swiss Alps. Stay in Grindewald overnight.
Day 4: Interlaken – top of Europe
Visit Europe’s highest railway station at 11,333 feet, the fabled Jungfraujoch, on the 2-hour cogwheel train ride through beautiful meadows and the rugged rock of the Mountain Eiger (Top of Europe). Consider spending some time at Jungfraujoch’s ice and snow-covered summit.
There is a Glacier Palace with ice sculptures, a Sphinx (a weather station), and lookout platforms where you can see the glacier and the snow-covered mountains in the distance. After returning home, take advantage of the spare time to explore both lakes, go on a boat tour on Thunersee Lake, or engage in other activities.
Day 5: Interlaken – Bern – Lausanne
Train to Lausanne. En route stop in Bern, the capital city of Switzerland, and explore the historical part of Bern. On your own: Stroll through the beautiful and romantic old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue to Lausanne.
Day 6: Lausanne – Zermatt
Chateau de Chillon. From Lausanne continue further to Montreux with the famous Castle Chillon. En route, VISIT Chillon Castle: Castle is located on a rock on the banks of Lake Geneva. Continue a scenic train ride to the car-free village of Zermatt, set on the foot of the mighty Matterhorn. After arrival, check in at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure in Zermatt.
Day 7: Zermatt
The Matterhorn. Ascend by cable car to the top of Matterhorn glacier, set on a high plateau and surrounded by mountains 13,124 feet high. Fantastic highest viewing platform in Europe (3883m) – one of the best views I have ever seen in my life! Take a hike or ski on the glacier, offering numerous ski lifts to enjoy skiing.
Day 8 Glacier Express train ride
Glacier Express. Enjoy a full day on the Glacier Express, the most renowned Panoramic Train in the world. Sit back and relax in your comfy seat, taking in the Alpine scenery from the large picture windows and enjoying a delicious lunch served at your seat. The route takes you to a fascinating 8-hours panoramic train ride from the Alpine resort of Zermatt to another chic and most renowned Swiss ski center, St.Moritz.
Day 9: St.Moritz – Lucerne
Lucerne. Train to Lucerne, the most romantic town in Switzerland. You can visit Mt. Pilatus or spend some free time in Lucerne.
Day 10: Lucerne – Zurich airport
Zurich Airport. Train to Zurich airport and flight back home. This ends our Travel through Switzerland by train tour.
