Which power plug/style is used in Switzerland?

< 1 min read

In Switzerland, the power plugs and sockets are a bit different from most of Europe. Here’s what you need to know:

Plug Type #

  • Type C – two round pins (common in Europe).

  • Type J – three round pins in a triangular configuration (the Swiss standard).

Most Swiss sockets accept both Type C and Type J plugs.

Voltage & Frequency #

  • Voltage: 230 V

  • Frequency: 50 Hz

This is the standard European voltage, so most modern chargers and electronics (laptops, phone chargers) work without a problem.

Adapter Tip #

  • If your plug is not Type C or J (e.g., US, UK, or AU plugs), you’ll need a plug adapter.

  • No voltage converter is usually needed if your devices support 100–240 V.
